Abstract
Hermetia illucens larvae consume a variety of decomposing organic waste, hence it is a great chance to cooperate with the surrounding environment by getting rid of these organic wastes. The quality and quantity of food they consume determine the rate of development of these insect. In this study, five-day-old larvae were fed on biofermented agricultural waste, all of which was mainly cellulose. In addition, pigeon and chicken manure. The effect of these media in larval stage and also developmental stages were studied and discussed. Results indicated that the highest recorded values were in media fermented with whey protein in all measured parameters. The highest recorded larval, prepupal, and pupal weights were 0.25,0.29 and 0.21 g. The fastest larval development (16.2 days) and the longest adult duration (8.4 days) were recorded for the larvae fed on wheat straw. Pupation and adult emergency percentage recorded about 99% for most media.indicating the effect of whey protein.
