Abstract

New Oxyfluoride Borate Glass-Ceramics:Prediction of Elastic Properties
Abstract
In this paper, new oxyfluoride borate glass-ceramics were obtained from the prepared glass system xCaF2–(50-x)LiF–50B2O3 (0 ≥ x ≥ 20 mol%). The structural and elastic properties of prepared class-ceramic samples were studied by using ultrasonic pulse-echo technique. The addition of CaF2 causes a remarkable change in density, molar volume, ultrasonic velocities and elastic moduli. A good correlation as achieved between elastic moduli and compositional parameters. The agreement between theoretical and experimental values of elastic moduli has been studied based on Makishima-Mackenzie's theory and Rocherulle et al. model. Results reveal that, Rocherulle et al. model is more applicable than the Makishima-Mackenzie's theory in predicting the data of experimental elastic moduliThe composition dependence of density, ultrasonic velocities and elastic moduli show maxima at 5 mol% CaF2.A good correlation was achieved between elastic moduli and compositional parameters. In compared to Makishima-Mackenzie's theory, Rocherulle et al. model is more applicable in predicting the data of experimental elastic moduli.
